What to Expect when your House is Getting Painted
As an interior designer, I understand the impact that a fresh coat of paint can have on transforming a space. Here are a few things to expect when you’re getting your house painted.
Paint Colors and Light
One of my biggest tips is to paint swatches of your selected colors on at least 2 walls of your room: one with indirect light and one with direct light. And then take a look at it during the day and at night. Paint colors can change so much depending on the time of day, so painting swatches is the only real way to get an idea of what they’ll look like.
Clear the Space
Before the painting crew arrives, it's important to clear the area being painted. Remove any furniture, decor, or personal belongings from the rooms where painting will take place. By creating an empty space, you provide the painters with ample room to work efficiently and avoid potential damage to your personal items.
Surface Preparation
While professional painters excel in surface preparation, you can take some proactive steps to prepare your walls before their arrival. Start by removing any artwork, mirrors, or wall fixtures and store them safely away from the work area. You may need to remove your TV or speakers from the wall. Confirm with the painters that they’ll fill any holes or cracks in the walls with spackling compound and sand them smooth. This prepping process will help the painters achieve a flawless finish.
Plan for Alternative Spaces
During the painting process, certain areas of your home may be temporarily inaccessible or off-limits. To minimize disruption to your daily routine, consider creating alternative spaces for essential activities. For example, designate a temporary dining area or workspace in another room, allowing you to comfortably continue with your day-to-day activities while the painters work their magic.
