The July Edit

I feel like it’s been a slow start to summer here in Petaluma — It’s been windy and not as sunny as usual. But I’m hoping it’ll start heating up so we can head to the beach and make the most of the long daylight hours!

Read

I’m in the middle of reading The Cloisters by Katy Hays, and I’m loving the slow burn of this Occult-inspired thriller. It’s almost along the lines of The Secret History by Donna Tartt, but a little more sultry. Since I’m only halfway through, I won’t share any spoilers, but let’s just say I have my eye on a flight to New York.

Visit

It seems like every weekend there’s another event happening in Petaluma — it’s one of my favorite things about this town! Come to visit on July 9th for the annual Art & Garden Festival. Hosted by the Petaluma Downtown Association, they’re raising funds for the downtown and to showcase the work of local artists and sample local spirits, wines and craft beers. Don’t miss this opportunity to sample the Sonoma County makers!

Inspiration

It’s not summer until you find yourself dreaming of a cottage on the beach, and this one is a good one. Designer Sarah Reilly of Studio Rozu was inspired by Mid-Century designer Charlotte Perriand to create the perfect modern beach shack. The cedar planks that cover the walls offer warmth, while staying true to the minimalist intent. I love the focus on indoor / outdoor spaces — and of course love the built in storage for surfboards and an epic outdoor shower. I could one hundred percent see this house perched on the dunes of Bodega Bay!
