Frequently Asked Questions for Designers
Whether you’ve worked with an interior designer before, or you’re just in the researching phase of your renovation or new build project, we love walking clients through our process and to answer questions about how we work. Here are some of the most common questions we’re asked by folks planning their next project.
Q: Do you handle ‘trade’ work like new lighting, painting, wallpaper, etc?
A: Yes! We connect our clients with our trusted local trades and contractors. We have a small team that we like to recommend for our projects. We are always open to using new-to-us trades, and we’re also happy to help you find the best fit for your project.
Q. How do you develop furnishings and renovation budgets?
A: Setting budgets can be a moving target, but we try our best to arm you with all the information you need to make thoughtful financial decisions. At the beginning of a project, we create a general outline of what you’d like to accomplish and then work with the trades to provide quotes for your approval. For furnishings, once we develop the overall style and layout, we provide a breakdown of expected items per room.
Sometimes clients come to us with a budget already established, and we can work with you to determine what we can reasonably accomplish within that.
Q. How do you work with Architects?
A: We love to work with architects! A strong team is instrumental in the success of a project. While each project is different, we like to work in tandem with architects to develop a design that functions for you and your family, while adhering to the overall vision we’ve created together. We’re flexible if you already have someone in mind, or just let us know if you’d like us to recommend someone we’ve worked with before.
Q. How long will my renovation take?
A: With current delays and price increases, the construction schedule is another aspect that is always in flux. Depending on the scope of your project, it could take anywhere between four months and two years! We work closely with architects and contractors at the beginning to determine the overall scope, from which they can develop a timeline. Contractors have been very busy, so it’s best to inquire early to get into their queue.
